Reporting Scotland judged "best regional television news programme in Europe"

BBC Scotland's flagship news programme, Reporting Scotland, has been judged the best regional television news programme in Europe at the prestigious Prix Circom Regional 2002 awards.

Reporting Scotland beat off competition from almost 400 entries from 38 European countries to win the television news category. The runners-up were Central News at Six (Carlton Broadcasting, UK) and Objective (TVP Bailystock, Poland).

Representatives from Reporting Scotland will pick up the award at a televised ceremony marking the 20th Prix Circom Regional Conference on the evening of Tuesday 28 May.

Programme Editor Diarmid O'Hara and Producer Jonathan Milne will travel to Kosice, Slovakia for the 2002 Conference where they will be presented with a trophy, a certificate and a cheque in recognition of their tremendous success.

BBC Scotland’s Head of News and Current Affairs, Blair Jenkins, said: "To be judged best in Europe is a terrific endorsement of the quality of the programme and is a great tribute to the creativity and hard work of Diarmid and the Reporting Scotland team over the last year."
