BBC World sponsors 11th Cité de la Réussite

Sorbonne University, Paris - 19th & 20th October 2002

For the third consecutive year, BBC World, the 24-hour international news and information channel broadcast on cable and satellite, will sponsor the 11th edition of Cité de La Réussite on the theme of "New Worlds" in La Sorbonne, Paris on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th October 2002.

The presence of BBC World as the only international TV sponsor at Cité de La Réussite demonstrates the channel is once again a leader in international news. BBC World's audience in Europe has increased significantly between 2001 and 2002 as shown in the recent IPSOS study showing that 70% of Europeans, amongst the "upmarket" adult population, are viewing the channel daily. In France, last year's agreement signed with the French Ministry of Education in France made BBC World the only channels used as an official English language learning tool in secondary schools throughout France.

Cité de La Réussite, which traditionally gathers a wide range of people from international politics, economics, culture and art as well as students, offers BBC World an opportunity to be in direct contact with its audience. The channel will be represented at this year's event by one of its key journalists who will lead a panel debate on the Middle East on Sunday October 20th, and also through the advertising and broadcast presence at its stand in the university.
BBC World will be also able in a unique position to promote its image through the opinion leaders of today and tomorrow in France as well as in Europe.

BBC WORLD SPEAKERS : Sunday 20th October at 2.30pm- Grand Amphi
Lyse Doucet, a foreign correspondent for the BBC for more than 10 years and specialist in the Middle East will moderate the debate "The Middle East, impossible peace?" next to Shlomo ben-Ami, François Heibourg, Dominique Moïsi, Leïla Shahid.

Commenting on the continuing sponsorship of Cite de la Réussite event, Carolyn Gibson, Regional Sales Director, Europe for BBC World, said: "BBC World has an unparalleled reputation for offering news, inspiration and information in 200 countries across the world and France is one of the key markets for us. Our audience of internationally-minded, cosmopolitan decision-makers and opinion-formers makes us the perfect choice of media partner for Cite de la Réussite and it offers both students and today's world leaders the opportunity for debate and analysis on an important theme."
