BBC World Weather has new SWISS sponsor

BBC World, the BBC's 24-hour international news and information television channel, has signed a significant new advertising deal with SWISS/ Crossair, the new airline launched in March this year.

The agreement will see SWISS/ Crossair advertise with the channel from April 22nd, 2002 comprising an advertising spot campaign and sponsorship of BBC World Weather. The SWISS/ Crossair advertising campaign will harness peak viewing times for BBC World across all regions including weekday breakfast times in each time zone. In addition, BBC World will be using specially created sponsorship billboards to associate peak time Weather bulletins with the new Swiss/ Crossair service around the world.

Commenting on the agreement, Carolyn Gibson, Account Director, BBC World said: "This is a very significant campaign for BBC World and SWISS/ Crossair both in terms of brand and audience associations. With the tourism and airline business still recovering from the effects of Sept 11, and the slowdown of the global economy, SWISS/ Crossair has taken the initiative to gain significant awareness and market share with this campaign. We are also delighted to offer BBC World News Service as part of the SWISS/ Crossair in-flight entertainment package. This builds on BBC World's impressive credentials in reaching frequent travellers though a network of global airline carriers, hotel rooms and airports."

Reto Meister, General Manager, Marketing & Communications, SWISS/ Crossair said: "Through this new television campaign with BBC World, we aim to reach our target audience in key locations worldwide with some fresh images for the airline which will be integrated into our marketing campaign for the rest of the year. The commercial is based on a very clear and simplistic style. Our aim was to pull together the attributes of the Swiss environment and culture and to create a distinctive brand experience which we think will fit very well around the BBC World Weather reports." he added.

BBC World Weather is part of the channel's news and programme mix and presented every hour by professional broadcast meteorologists from the UK Met office based at London's BBC Weather Centre. BBC World offers daily city and five-day weather forecasts covering every region of the globe for the worldwide audience.
