BBC World now available on Turun Kaapelitelevisio Oy


BBC World, the BBC's 24-hour international news and information television channel, has just signed an agreement with Turun Kaapelitelevisio Oy in Turku, Finland for distribution on their three systems, making the channel available in a total of 66,000 new homes in the region.


Since March 18th the Finnish cable operator Turun Kaapelitelevisio Oy has been offering BBC World to its customers located in Turku, Kaarina, Paimio, Piikkio, Lieto and Loimaa.


"This is a very exciting development for BBC World in Finland. Turku is a key city and we are very pleased to have partnered up with Turun Kaapelitelevisio Oy enabling us to add to our existing presence in Finland, reaching a greater proportion of its population than ever before," said Bob De Stefanis, Network Development Manager, Europe, BBC World.


Commenting on the addition of BBC World to their network, Heikki Painilainen, Turun Kaapelitelevisio Oy's Managing Director said: "We are delighted to start providing BBC World as a basic channel in our network, especially now that we have launched our digital services. It has been one of the most requested channels by our subscribers."


BBC World draws on the resources of BBC News, the world's largest newsgathering operation comprising 58 international news bureaux and 250 correspondents worldwide. In addition, BBC World offers the very best of the BBC documentaries such as Panorama and Correspondent, the hard-hitting interview programme HARDtalk with Tim Sebastian, science programmes like Horizon, and on the lighter side, hugely popular leisure and entertainment programmes like Holiday and Talking Movies.


Viewers with a keen interest in European news can enjoy programmes specifically tailored for the region. European Business Breakfast from 0600 to 0900 CET each weekday equips morning viewers with the very latest business and economic news from the world's financial capitals.


Europe Direct is another regional-focused monthly magazine programme with wide ranging political, social and environmental stories from around the continent.
