Triumph for The Weakest Link at Broadcast Awards

Against tough competition, the BBC's The Weakest Link won "Most Successful International Programme" at the seventh annual Broadcast Awards 2002 last night. Pitched against Inspector Morse and Trans World, the programme was praised for its impact across the globe and its position as a key revenue generator for BBC Worldwide.

Other BBC winners were Blue Planet for Best Documentary Series and BBC Newsround for Best Children's Programme.

Colin Jarvis, Director of Programming & Operations, BBC Worldwide said, "I am delighted The Weakest Link has been recognised as one of the UK's leading programme exports in the world television market. It reflects the high production values of the series and the dedication and hard work of the production team in the UK, as well as their work with broadcasters across the world."

The Weakest Link has now been licensed to 75 territories across the globe.

The Broadcast Awards have emerged as a benchmark of success of television companies, featuring the very best of programme production in UK television.
