BBC updates name and look of its international news channel

BBC World News today replaces BBC World as the name of the BBC’s commercially funded, international 24-hour news and information channel.

The move follows audience research which revealed BBC World News to be more effective in conveying the channel’s content, which over the years has moved towards its current focus of news and programming.

Sian Kevill, Editorial Director BBC World News, says: “Following research across key markets, our audience told us BBC World News was the most compelling name for the channel. Over the past five years, we have invested in extending our news coverage, with output now ranging from breaking news through to stories spanning areas from business to sport and science to entertainment. The new name reflects far better what the channel offers”.

The programming mix on BBC World News remains the same and while the channel is committed to providing up-to the minute international news, it will continue to broadcast programmes such as Click and HARDtalk, as well as its popular weekend documentaries.
