Newton-le-Willows
to Leyburn leg
Once
past Crakehall the run to Newton-le-Willows is brisk.
Various
birds and rabbits leap out of the way , and a hare tries to run
ahead of the train , eventually giving up and turning sharply into
the undergrowth .

The
next stopping point is Finghall , where the train stops to open
the gates again , The station platform looks like a well kept garden
centre with a variety of pots and plants.
There
are a number of bridges and farm crossings to pass plus splendid
views of Middleham Castle before the train finally turns the corner
and slips slowly into the platform at Leyburn .
Twelve
miles in around 42 minutes , surely one of the great train rides
in Britain made all the more special because so much hard work and
dedication from locals has gone into saving the Wensleydale line.
