What about cooking the turkeys every Christmas. You brought your turkey down on christmas eve and JB would cook them n his oven. He was a wonderful person, and very charitable human being. (12 Beechmount Cres.)

My father worked at Kennedy's Bakery, back before the troubles - late 60s. He lived on Beechmount Crescent, and I always understood that Beechmount was haunted - is this true?

My cousins, the McKeown family lived @ Beechmount Cresent just round the corner from Kennedy's bakery, There were six beautiful girls in that family. We used to visit them sometimes going over McGladderys ? brickyard to get a shortcut to their house. We had to walk along the convent wall on the way home. Everyone knew the convent wall was haunted! We moved smartly along Beechmount Ave and no doubt because of our speed and the prayers we said we never met any ghosts. Is Belfast still haunted I wonder? Or have they all fled to safer quieter places? Any of the McKeown family still out there can get me at mariebmoore3@hotmail.com.

You can still get a kennedy's traditional Paris bun at Miller's home bakery at Chapel Lane. The baker who works for Miller's was one of Kennedy's original bakers, and it is still the best Paris bun in Ireland only he knows what makes it so good... he is retiring this year.
My father, my uncle worked for Kennedy's I remember going up to the bakery in Beechmount Avenue during the troubles when the big bread containers could not get out of Belfast. I was about 11 or 12 while my dad packed his van, i took off round the bakery, sad its all gone now. just memories and the official name was:

J.B. Kennedy Ltd
Kennedys bakery
68 Beechmount Ave
Belfast

Kennedy's bread Baked for the family by the family bakery.

I come from Dublin and we had a rhyme about Kennedy's bread:
Kennedy's bread
Would kill a man dead
Especially a man
With a baldy head...

I remember my Ma would send me over to Kennedy's Bakery with a pillow case and a shilling and get any bread that was left over. There was always a line for left over bread, you opened the pillow case and you would take what was next on the on the counter, the man would fill your pillow case, and off you went with whatever you got.

I remember kennedy/s bread went to school then to work on paris buns for my breakfast. Sadly there was not much else to eat . Still im all grown up now 67 years old so i survived. What i would like to know is where did the paris bun come from? So paul thats all i can add to your story about the bakery. Oh i would love one now with a wee cup of tea.

best of luck.

Bernie - January '05
Paul I remember this : - "Kennedys bread it's had to beat, Kennedys bread it's like concrete, J or K P Kennedys bread." Bernie.

James B. Kennedy - Feb '08
