Croix de Guerre medal

Can you help Syd Perriam trace records of his dad's medal?

Croix de Guerre medal

My dad served in the british army, and his battallion was awarded the Croix de Guerre medal. My dad has long passed and sadly his medal is also misplaced. Could you please advise me as to where I might find any records of this so that I may be able to get a replica or even just cofirmation to show his great grandchildren?

Thank you.

Syd Perriam

Sorry, I can't help, but have a similar problem,- my grandfather was also RHA and with his medals we have the ribbon of the Croix de Guerre, - we knew that he or his unit was suposed to have been mentioned in despatches - supposedly a 'representative' MC or MM was awarded in the associated action. Like you I am seeking a replacement medal, but more especially interested in sources of information about the award with a view to determining something about the action if possible. I do not know if the award was given to specific individuals or to a battery. Incidentally, it was also belelieved in my family that my grandfather served in the 'King's Troop' - but of course this could be myth. Any help would be appreciated.

My grandfather was awarded the Croix De Guerre as a member of the Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery.

My Great Grandad was awarded the Croix De Guerre in World War 1.

He has since long gone but always used to tell my Father when he was young he got it for "robbing the dead".

His name was Walter Charles Ashton and he served in the Royal Engineers, Regiment Number 69573 as a Colour Quater Master Sergent.

I would be very grateful if anybody could shed some light on this,

My Grandfather was awarded the French Croix de Guerre during WW1, and my Father told me it held pride of place in a display case on the wall. It was promised to my Father as the eldest son, unfortunately it was taken by another family member and has not been seen since.

I would also like to know more information as to exactly when this medal was awarded and like information as to who I would write to. Whether I could gain information from French authorities.

In hope.... Christine

My Grandad was also awarded the croix de guerre during WW1. This was stolen in a burglary. I would also like to try and get a replacement. If you have any information on where I could get one, I would be very grateful.
