I am so glad to see this site! I was 3 or 4 years old during the second world war and remembered collecting milkweed for parachutes and could not remember if it was my imagination or if we really did collect for parachute making. I lived in Abilene, Kansas

My family owned a small webbing manufacturing business at Cookstown during WWII. It was going 24 hours per day making parachute webbing. Can anyone give me info on where parachutes were made in Northern Ireland?

Parachutes were made in the York Street factory in Union Street, Lurgan. The factory moved there after it was destroyed in Belfast.

my old aunt worked in Littlewoods factory in Carrickfergus (it was the first parachute outside the mainland) and I have a book showing pictures on the very many different jobs that were carried out in their factories throughout GB including munitions , parachutes, barrage balloons.
