Warden Brothers- your replies

This Newtownards store first opened in 1877 selling ironmongery and hardware to local farmers. James Warden was the shop's founder and the business still remains a family firm today.

Great programme which brought back many memories to me when i lived in Bangor. Glad to know this wonderful business is still in going. Best of luck to all your staff and keep things going for another century. Looking forward to visiting your store when i return from Canada on holidays.

Warden's phone number was very similar to our own in the 1980's. If the caller didn't dial the Newtownards town code first then the call came to us. Me and my brother were about 12 or 14 at the time and it used to get us really irritated for a while until we realised we could have a bit of fun with this. Oh yes. My brother would answer the phone "Hello,.....uh-huh,....yep,.....Hang on a minute,.." pass the phone to me and say "Curtain Department". I would then go on and listen to their complaints about the curtain drop or take orders for a new pelmet etc.

I have also told various people that their sofa's had been returned to the manufacturers because they didn't meet our "high quality standards regarding furryness".

Apologies to Wardens for perhaps denting their reputation!
