Walking Home from a Christening

Glentown Witch

Mrs McFerran of Newtownstewart related the following story to "Your Place & mine" team member - thankfully in a well lit room!

In the early 1940s a local woman was the back seat passenger in an old Riley, travelling back from the Smugglers Glen. Coming by Glentown, and before the turn down to Tom Baird's, there was a gap in the roadside wall, on a bend. Through the back window the woman saw a witch 'gliding' over the stoney gap, in a long black skirt and a red shawl over her head. She shouted to the others in the car, but they saw nothing.

However, in the early 1980's, there was an article in the Strabane weekly newspaper about a famous Warlock called Dr. Walsh, who lived at Tom Baird's and used to hold witches and warlock conventions. Wasn't it strange that the woman had seen a witch just there?
