Warrenpoint - Sandy Bottoms swimming club
The summer of 2003 in Northern Ireland has been really fine and warm. The not so hardy have ventured onto the beaches and some even into the Irish Sea.
However the really intrepid folks are at it all year round!

A
hardy breed...
A Sandy Bottom swimmer. |
|
Unknown to most of us, Warrenpoint's 'Sandy Bottom' gang, though grateful for the extra fine weather this year, are swimming daily in Carlingford Lough throughout the year - well most of them anyway... a small few just do it from June to September - but, nevertheless, they are very regular.
|
Although many of the swimmers belong to, what might politely be described as the 'bus-pass' years of life, many younger folk also join them daily in their healthy, if not bracing, exercise.

Marie McStay, in woollies, ventured down to Sandy Bottom shore, overlooked by the Carlingford hills, to interview some of the swimming club for Radio Ulster's 'Your Place and Mine' programme. So, the 'your place and mine' team tagged along too and filmed her as she did her report.
