I came across this story by accident while researching my wife's family tree.
I am interested in the following person:

William Haddick or Haddock.

According to his military record he was born about 1828 in Hollinsbarn, Moy (Co.Tyrone I think). His Father was Thomas. William was accidently shot by one of his sentries while serving in S.Africa. Does anybody know of a place called Hollinsbarn near Moy?

I came across this as I was randomly browsing the internet, yes my name is James Haddock, although I don't think I'm related in any way I did however find the story fascinating. I would be interested to hear from any Haddock particularly from Gloucestershire or Nuneaton.

The Grave stone of James Haddock is in the old part of St Patrick's CoI graveyard in Drumbeg. It never has been erected upright but lies atop the grave like a tomb stone. The story around the grave stone is that Haddock said before he died that his gravestone would never lie straight and would forever remain crooked to show the crooked deeds which he was subjected to in life.

Today if you visit Haddock's grave, which is on the left hand side of pathway, you will straight away see that his gravestone lies crookedly to the left against the natural pull of gravity (away from the path) whereas the graves all around have there head stones tilt towards the path with gravity. It has been straightened out many times during the past but within hours the gravestone tilts back the way it was. The church has decided to leave it be for the time being.

My Mother is Lynda Haddock, a direct decendent of JAMES HADDOCK. Her grandfather, James Thomas Haddock, told her that the gravestone was placed down on the grave to keep him in.

My mother was born in Thompson's Cottages, adjacent to Drumbeg Church - and she always refers to Haddocks grave stone, as the one that never stayed upright...
