St Bride's Primary School

P6 Class, St. Bride's P.S., Belfast

Our school, St. Bride's Primary School Derryvolgie Avenue, is celebrating its centenary this year. The school was first opened on the 25th of August 1902.

We are trying to get old photographs of pupils at the school through out the century. We have had some really exciting finds so far. If you know of anybody who has attended the school or who would have photographs or a story to tell, please get in touch.

Thank-you.

P6J.

Hi there, I attended St Brides from 1963 to 1969. The principal then was called Miss Mullan and although she was a tiny little thing she packed a punch!. Mr Murray, Miss Murphy, Mr Gunning, Miss McIlroy (later Mrs Hunter), Miss Birmingham and Mrs Gillespie were amongst the teachers there. In my last year 1969 (P7 in those days) I had Miss McHenry who I still think of as my best teacher ever. In those days we were in the old old school beside the old Church. It was later turned into a Youth Club in which I was involved. It was a much smaller school in my time - probably around 150 pupils which is a long cry from today. It was a fantastic little school of which I have very fond memories.

Hello, I attended St. Bride's school from 1955 to 1962. Some of my teachers were Mr. Murry, Mr. Gunning and I think Ms. McBride. It was a great school with great teachers. I am now living in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

Hey! I went to St. Brides 2 years ago. I enjoyed every moment of it, well most of it! I had a lot of brilliant teachers and I'm glad I went! I still am very close to my friends from that school!
Best of luck to the pupils that attend the school now!

I attended St Brides from the age of about 6 to 11+. I found this web page quite by accident and it is possible I can dig up some photographs, but probably not of the school itself.

Although I live in Australia, I will be in Belfast in late May so maybe I have the opportunity to drop in! Best wishes for the project.
