Brian's Belfast Sketchbook

When I worked in Belfast during the 60's and 70's I used to wander the City with a sketchbook during my lunch breaks.

BRIAN'S BELFAST SKETCHBOOK

RAILWAY SIDINGS 1969

Watercolour Original size 21 x 14 cm

Original watercolour by Brian Willis of R. Lagan from Albert Bridge

Well it doesn't look much does it? But I was walking over the Albert Bridge early one morning and there was a thick fog over the Lagan. This was all I could see of the sidings and the river. I did a quick pencil sketch to capture the scene, and that night turned it into a watercolour.

It's a memory of times past rather than a work of art and reminds me of the thick oily river and the stillness of the fog. Those poles are lights. The Leisure Centre is on this land now.

And that ends this handful of Belfast Sketches which I hope you have enjoyed.
