"In My Youth: Phil Coulter"
In 1986, during a visit to the studios at BBC Radio Foyle, Phil Coulter reminisced about his childhood in Londonderry. Growing up in a musical household on Abercorn Terrace, he went to the Christian Brothers School where his enthusiasm for music was encouraged by teachers John Mulcede and Redmond Friel. However, it wasn't until he reached Queen's University that he thought of music as a possible career path.
Derry's 'Piano Man' even revealed how he hated going to his first piano lessons! Phil talked to Don O'Doherty for "In My Youth" (broadcast on 12th December 1986) about his music and the city that holds a very special place in his heart.
