The Edwardian Hippodrome Circus in the heart of
Great Yarmouth and celebrates its centenary this year, 2003.
Synchronised swimmers are on the bill alongside
a troupe of world-class acrobats, contortionists, clowns and aerial
acts.
At the blow of a whistle the ring lowers gently
into 70,000 gallons of warm water in which swimmers perform elaborate
routines.
The pool was restored to working order in 1981,
two years after owner Peter Jay took over the building.
Only three circuses in the world have this aquatic
feature. The other two are in Blackpool and Moscow.
