Plans to transform the site of a former school in Leicestershire into a Pentecostal church have been announced.

A change of use application for the former Trinity College in Moor Lane, Loughborough, has been submitted by The Redeemed Christian Church of God Cornerstone Loughborough to Charnwood Borough Council.

The independent specialist school closed in October 2022 with just 14 pupils on its roll, following a "requires improvement" rating from Ofsted in January 2020.

According to the plans, the Grade II listed building would be used for Sunday worship, community events, counselling sessions and faith-based classes.

The church is currently based at John Storer House, a community centre in Ward's End.

In planning documents, the church said returning the 1878 building to its original use would restore its "historic community role" while ensuring it remains a "viable and multifunctional asset" for the town.

Under the proposals, the ground floor would be reconfigured to create a hall able to accommodate up to 180 worshippers, alongside four classrooms, reports the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
