The Stone Roses

Biography

The Stone Roses were an influential English rock band from Manchester, active during the mid 1980s through to the mid 1990s. Their 1989 eponymous debut album quickly achieved the status of a classic in the UK, and topped NME's list of the Greatest British Albums of All Time.

They released a second album, Second Coming, in 1994 and split in 1996...

  • 1990 Fined #3,000 each after vandalising their former record company's offices

  • 1990 last recording before four years of legal battles with their record company

  • 1995 Reni leaves
  • 1995 John Squire is injured and the band cancel a Glastonbury appearance
  • 1996 Squire leaves and is replaced by Aziz Ibrahim
  • 1996 Disband after a disastrous Reading Festival appearance
