2GirlDJs - doing it their way

" People either take us as they see us or they don't... we're honest and we know our stuff - we are DJs..."

2GirlDJs aka Emma and Natalie

Feisty words - but then in the male dominated world of DJ'ing its no good being a girl who hides her light under the proverbial.

If you want to make it, be taken seriously and have credibility, then the game has to be played with a different bag of marbles and for two sisters from Manchester this is no contest!

As they told Debbie Troops, from the comfort of Natalie's living room, they've been playing vinyl for a long time and their latest venture as a duo - 2GirlDJs -is just an extension of their successful solo careers.

Natalie says " I started out when my boyfriend was doing a bit of DJ'ing... I went out to Greece with him where I got paid loads less than the men but it was good training for me... it went from there really but I was never that serious 'cos I had my career and other things going on... but this time it's different..."

Emma says " I first got on Natalie's decks when I was 14 and then when I was 15, I got my first residency in Manchester...I've played all over Liverpool, Birmingham, Manchester and I just love it... I took a bit of a break for a while 'cos I was doing a bit too much but now I really am looking forward to what we're doing together."

Which is proving, that being female and a vinyl spinner is neither a bonus nor a problem. "We have such a good time when we play together and I think that's why people like us, " says Natalie, "I don't think they look at us as girls first and DJs second - "

"Well they might, "Emma interrupts, "but once they hear us they change their minds... our sound is chunky house with dark undertones we want to do something a bit different..."

"Yeah... it's time for a breath of fresh air... time for a change and that's what we are..." Natalie adds.
