The Killers-View-Indie influenced crowd gleefully accept the challenge from the Pigeon Detectives front man. It’s not the only gauntlet he throws down. There’s also, "give us a song, Manchester" and "this song needs backing vocals, are you up to it?" Both are gleefully taken up. The duration of the set is effectively a house party sing-along session. Technology allows songs to be previewed and lyrics to be downloaded before songs are released, so when this main event, everyone joins in. It’s like a modern form of homework for the punters and tonight everyone here gets an A+. From the start, the set is a fast paced, jaunty affair, ideal for Bowman to jump on the speaker stacks or to reach out into the already won-over crowd. The snappy, easily chanted lyrics are ideal for maximising the band-audience interaction and as the beer-sodden, sweat-drenched audience disperse into the cool night air, the majority have smiles on their faces. |
