Singer Stephan Jones is a quirky front man, telling jokes and interacting with the audience even if it is in an awkward way. At one point, he asks who’s going to buy him double brandy. Then actually waits until some one brings one back. A bit much to ask considering the 12 quid ticket price.

There is a good reason for the lack of hype though; the set is a bland unpolished delivery of songs that have little to offer in the way of creativity. Jones does, however, have some interesting lyrics. It feels inevitable that Babybird will retain fans from previous albums, not to mention the chart topping You’re Gorgeous, but in exciting times for new music, the current offering is unlikely to have an impact on the majority. |
