 | | Amadou and Mariam |
Looking insanely cool - imagine Mary and Joseph if they had been blind African funk musicians and you’re about there - they offer no end of enjoyment with their brand of beat-centred, guitar laden, home brewed craziness. Sure, verbal interaction with the audience is sparse, and when it does occur the duo talk in their native tongue and nobody understands a word, but that doesn’t matter. Tonight is about communication through music and, above all, having a stomping great time (and for much of the audience, particularly during the encore break, a great time stomping). Rarely are a group of musicians seen to be smiling as much, if not more than their audience, and this only adds to the feeling of total enjoyment and sing along atmosphere. On top of that, the drummer looks exactly like Whoopi Goldberg. What more could you ask for? |
