Thoroughly Modern Millie, starring Amanda Holden, is one of the most recent casualties of poor ticket sales in the West End.

Neil LaBute's The Shape of Things closed after less than a month and Rattle of a Simple Man, with Michelle Collins and Stephen Tompkinson, lasted just four weeks.

BBC London went out into theatreland to find what would make audiences head off to a show or a performance.
