from St Stephens C of E Primary School in Preston to
improve their reading skills as part of a university
initiative called 'Read for Fun'.

Volunteers
and children ready to get stuck into some reading
|
The
campaign aims to tackle low levels of literacy by providing
vital support, through a team of volunteers, to Primary
School children who need the extra help. The volunteers
support this scheme by working individually with pupils
and helping them with their literacy skills.
The
'Read for Fun' campaign has offered the children increased
confidence and self esteem, improved reading, communication
and interpersonal skills and a chance to develop their
enthusiasm and interest in books and reading.
The
initiative offers UCLan staff the opportunity to work
with the local community, sharing their knowledge and
expertise, and gives them time to support the learning
of young people.
