| As
part of the '800 Years' celebrations that mark Jersey's decision
in 1204 to stick with King John instead of siding with France, a
rather unusual royal portrait has been commissioned.
The
portrait of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II will be unlike any image
you have seen before. For the first time in the world a holographic
portrait of the Queen will be produced.

Nigel
Queree, Chairman of the Jersey 1204 - 2004 organising committee,
said that "the unveiling of the portrait will be one of the
most poignant events this year and a legacy for future generations."
The
artist behind the work, Chris Levine, has been commissioned to create
the first full size holographic portrait of the current monarch.
Her Majesty is understood to have sat for him in November 2003.
Levine
is best known for his radically contemporary work with fashion icons
and super stars such as Stella McCartney, Massive Attack and Issey
Miyake.
"Jersey
has a long and fascinating history with the Crown," according
to Jonathan Carter, the Director of Jersey Heritage Trust. "We
wanted to commission a Royal Portrait that not only reflects this
history but is also a contemporary iconic image of distinction."

"By
using the holographic medium combined with our heritage - this portrait
will symbolise and celebrate Jersey, its people and the future."
The
portrait will be unveiled at the Jersey Museum on 23 June and will
then leave on what the organisers hope to be an international tour.
Levine's royal hologram will cost a total of £150,000 and
will be paid for with a States grant.
