Christopher
Hazeldene (42) from Teignmouth, South Devon, joins London Clipper
from Reliance Yacht Management, a specialist company providing a comprehensive
marine management service for corporate and private clients. With
a distinguished background as a Shipwright and professional yachtsman,
Chris is set to bring a wealth of marine experience and yacht racing
skills to the capital’s racing yacht.
Christopher started dinghy sailing aged six, crewing
in GP 14’s and Flying Fifteens, and took to the position of
helm at just seven years of age. He started offshore yachting in
1987 and has been seriously focussed on achieving his ambition of
skippering in the Clipper 2002 Round The World Yacht Race for the
last three years.
Commenting on the forthcoming challenge, Christopher
said, “The Clipper 2002 race represents a huge challenge for
the amateur crews and I am looking forward to being part of their
very special achievement. The city of London has a strong maritime
tradition and we will be flying the UK capital’s flag proudly
around the world and endeavouring to provide our supporters with
good cause to celebrate.”
Christopher
serves as an auxiliary in H.M. Coastguard, stationed at Teignmouth,
having joined the unit in 1994, and is also a keen footballer and
water-skier.
