Adam Kyffin (37) from Wallasey, Wirral, an experienced coastal and offshore sailor, joins Liverpool Clipper from a distinguished background as a Qualified Mechanical Engineer.

With many sea miles and having worked on a variety of engineering projects for the likes of Vauxhall Motors, Balfour Beatty and Jaguar, Adam is set to bring a wealth of marine engineering experience and yacht racing skills to the city’s yacht.

Sailing has been part of Adam’s life since a very early age, cruising and racing aboard a family yacht before achieving many dinghy racing successes at Porthmadog and Trawsfynydd Sailing Club, starting aboard an optimist dinghy aged just 8. Adam also enjoyed much success in the laser dinghy class, joining the Bala Lake youth training programme and claiming 2nd place in the Welsh Youth Championships in 1981.

More recently, Adam has crewed aboard a 43-foot Catana catamaran from Gran Canaria to Grenada and has enjoyed a successful campaign at club and national level as tactician for a competitive Sigma 33. In 1999, Adam bought a Hunter Formula 28 for club racing and national events and has achieved fourth overall in Ford Cork Week 2000, second in the IRC 2 Class in ISORA Week 2001 in Pwllheli and was overall winner of the Lyver Trophy 2001, a 180-mile RORC (Royal Ocean Racing Club) Race from Liverpool to Pwllheli.

Commenting on the forthcoming challenge, Adam, said, “The Clipper 2002 race is a huge challenge for the amateur crews and I am looking forward to being part of their very special achievement. As an adopted Liverpudlian, I will be proudly flying the city’s flag around the globe and it will certainly be hoisted high when we set sail from Liverpool this autumn, as we endeavour to give our supporters good cause to celebrate.”
