Justin
Taylor (31) from Bournemouth joins Hong Kong Clipper as a professional
coastal and offshore skipper and is set to bring a wealth of marine
experience, yacht racing and also engineering skills to the city's
yacht. Most recently, Justin crossed the Pacific Ocean from Hong Kong
to San Francisco and has crossed the Atlantic twice as well as undertaking
a tour of the Baltic ports including Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm and
Kiel.
With over 45,000 miles at sea, sailing has been
part of Justin's life since a very early age. Having sailed most
of his life in and around the Solent and South Coast of England,
Justin successfully completed the professional Skippers training
Course at the UK Sailing Academy in Cowes, Isle of Wight during
1999. Prior to working as a professional Skipper, Justin was employed
in the Construction industry as an engineer foreman, a hands on
management role with responsibility for up to a 120 person workforce.
Qualified to degree level as a Building engineer, Justin will find
his management, communication and planning skills tested to the
limit. His engineering background should stand him in good stead
to carry out the inevitable running repairs to the yacht throughout
the 35,000 mile race.
Commenting
on the forthcoming challenge, Justin said, "I will be flying
the flag for Asia's world city proudly around the globe, endeavouring
to claim victory for Hong Kong Clipper. It has always been an ambition
to one day compete in a round the world yacht race, and to be given
an opportunity to achieve something that most people only ever dream
about is amazing. To successfully lead a team of novices around
the world will not only test myself to the limit but hopefully will
give them the greatest adventure of their lives."
