Rupert
Parkhouse (33) from Chichester, West Sussex,joins Glasgow Clipper
from Southern Sailing and a distinguished background as a sailing
instructor. Having previously instructed dinghy sailing, powerboating
and windsurfing, Rupert is set to bring a wealth of marine experience
and skills to the city’s racing yacht.
With over 24,000 sea miles already under his belt,
most recently Rupert gained his MCA Class 4, and has been working
as a freelance skipper with Southern Sailing. He has sailed with
the Ocean Youth Trust (South), a registered educational charity
providing sail training for young people, on board the 70-foot steel
ketch “John Laing”. Prior to this, Rupert skippered
a Jeanneau Sun Oddessey 52.2 as a Charter Captain in the British
Virgin Islands and also successfully skippered RYA courses, from
Competent Crew to Yachtmaster, on board “Menai II”,
a Westerly Fulmar 33, for the National Watersports Centre in Plas
Menai, North Wales.
Commenting
on his forthcoming challenge, Rupert, a proficient skier who also
enjoys kayaking, said, “The Clipper 2002 race represents a
huge challenge for the amateur crews and I am looking forward to
being part of their very special achievement. We will be flying
the Glasgow flag proudly around the world and will endeavour to
provide our supporters with good cause to celebrate.”
