Captain Roger Steven-Jennings
(46) from Plumstead, Cape Town joins Cape Town Clipper from a distinguished
military background and is set to bring a wealth of naval experience
and leadership skills to the city’s yacht. Roger is currently
serving in the SA Navy and is the Naval Harbour Master at Simon’s
Town; he will take an 18-month sabbatical, approved by the Chief of
the SA Navy, in order to take on the challenge of the Clipper 2002
race.
Commenting on his appointment, Roger said, 'As a
South African, I will take great pride in representing Cape Town
around the world as our racing yacht takes on the other international
cities. As a competitive skipper, I will take even more pride in
winning the race for my home town.
