Dear
all and a big howdy from Japan.
This
will be very brief as the keyboard is a bit iffy and my knowledge
of Japanese characters is very limited!
Having
a great time so far here in the land of little people. Finally arrived
yesterday morning after an extremely arduous crossing from Hawaii.
Sadly the race did not go quite to plan as followers will no doubt
be aware.
Fight
with the main sheet
Again,
I have many stories with which to bore the masses when I get back
(you have been warned). Two brief ones include me increasing my
speed record. This time I managed 22.4 knots whilst 4 crew were
on the foredeck attempting a sail change (for those who are unsure
of these matters let me asure you that this is extremely fast and
not a little bit scary).
The
second involves me coming off second best after a fight with the
main sheet (Mum, please ignore this bit) and I wasn`t allowed out
of the cockpit for 2 days as i couldn`t see straight.
Very
busy.....
So,
even after giving it our best, (although hindered with every breakage
possible, especially in the last hour of the race), we were narrowly
squeezed into 4th place. This being a family e-mail Iwill not try
to describe to you my feelings about that. Our overall
lead is still secure however, and we will have to make sure
that we do better next time (a brief nine-day sprint to Shanghai).
Will
try and write again before I leave, but you have to understand that
I will be very busy eating sushi, drinking sake and maybe enjoying
a bit of skiing (maybe) and kareoke (depends on the sake!).
Bit
disappointed that no one has contacted me with the rugby scores
though!
Hope
all is well with you lot.
Skinny,
non-bearded Marcus in freezing Yokohama.
