Even though he has experience of various adventures, including
walking the Machu Picchu trail, climbing Kilimanjaro and white water
rafting in Eastern Turkey, Simeon's sailing experience is largely
limited to windsurfing.
Simeon's reasons for doing the race are firstly because he wanted
to learn to sail, secondly "because life is too short"
and last but not least to raise money for MacMillian Cancer Relief
and the St Luke's Hospice charity.
The second leg appealed to Simeon as it will give him the opportunity
to practice his Spanish conversational skills learnt whilst living
in Madrid and travelling around Latin America.
He has no connection
with Jersey, nor does he know very much about the island. This is
something he intends to be correct by the end of the race. "It's
the least I can do for being given the chance to represent the island!"
he said.
