He first became interested in sailing about 10 years ago: since then he has been a keen, if irregular, crew on cruising yachts mainly in the Solent but also on flotillas in the Mediterranean. His other great interest is in music (piano).

Richard is doing leg 2 of the race: he is looking forward to some good sailing in a warm environment and also to seeing some interesting places on the way. He is planning to do the RYA Yachtmaster following the race and is hoping to try his hand at celestial navigation en route.
