Ian
has been involved in newspaper production all his working life,
starting as an apprentice printer.
He
currently holds the position of Group Printing Development Manager
for Johnston Press, the third largest publishers in the UK.
His
work involves training printers and commissioning multi million
pound presses.
Ian has been sailing for 25 years and has owned
a variety of yachts, his current one being a 9 metre sailing cruiser
which he and Paula mainly sail around the Solent.
"I make at least one visit to Jersey every
year and we've sailed in past Corbiere on many occasions. It's an
annual tradition of ours to hire bikes and cycle round the Island
by way of the old railway tracks."
"The island of Jersey has a particular attachment
for me. I am proud to be sailing on Jersey Clipper for the entire
race and looking forward to leading the fleet into our home port
next September!" said Ian.
"As
for why I am doing the race, there are many clichés that
I believe to be very true and I can do no better than to quote one:
You only live once, it’s as simple as that."
