If
you're looking for somewhere unusual to take your kids to meet Santa
this year then this could be what you're looking for.
Santa will be taking trips on a narrow boat along an illuminated tunnel
on the Worcester to Birmingham canal.
There's also a mini panto to watch as the narrow boat makes its way
through the 580 yard long Tardebigge tunnel near Bromsgrove.
The theme of this year's show is that Santa has been captured by pirates,
and the children on the trip have to help rescue him from an underground
cave where he's being held prisoner.
It's the 16th year the Santa trips have been on offer.
This section of the canal includes the longest flight of locks in
the country and two tunnels, the Tardebigge tunnel and the Shortwood
tunnel.
The Worcester to Birmingham canal has to climb more than 425 feet,
and has 56 locks in the stretch from Worcester to Tardebigge, and
five tunnels in all.
The canal took 20 years to build and finally opened in 1815
In that time the cost rose from the original estimate of £180,000
to a staggering £610,000. |
