What is
a year out or 'gap year' all about?
It's a chance for you to see the world, visit other countries, learn new
skills or do voluntary work. You can take a year out in many different
countries, as well as the UK. Most people take a gap year before starting
university, but you can take one whenever you want.
What can I do during a gap year?
There are lots of options open to you:
- Volunteering in the UK or abroad.
- Living abroad as part of a cultural exchange.
- Becoming a member of an expedition to some far off country.
- Joining a work experience programme.
- Applying for paid work all over the world.
- Learning a new skill on a training course.
