FACTS

Any weight lost by BBC Hereford & Worcester staff will be the result of a healthier regime, not crash dieting, and you are encouraged to do the same - e.g walking to work, rather than drive or eating fruit & veg rather than crisps & sweets

"Fat Nation - the Big Challenge" is the BBC's two year campaign aimed at tackling obesity

It launches officially on BBC 1, on Thursday Sept 9th, with a ground breaking TV show from a street in Birmingham

The residents, with the help of a small team of experts ( the F team - exercise coach, psychologist, Miss Chiplash the nutritionist) will attempt to turn their lifestyles around

A range of programming across BBC 3, local radio and regional tv, and interactive will be encouraging viewers/listeners to do the same

Did you know that the collective weight of 21 BBC Hereford & Worcester staff is 1700 kilos, giving an average weight of 12.72 stone per person?

This was discovered when we went to the public weighbridge in Malvern to be weighed en masse.

We're not just doing it for the hell of it, we're hoping to raise funds for the BBC Hereford & Worcester Money Marathon appeal.

You may wonder how we're going to raise money for the Hospices - well this is how it's going to work.

The period of the challenge will last from Friday September 10th to Friday November 5th - when we'll attempt to calculate our collective weight again.

We've got sponsorship forms available from the Action Desk and there are three options:

  1. Sponsor the BBC H&W team so much per pound lost or for a fixed amount.
  2. Get sponsorship for your own group (from businesses, schools, pubs, WIs etc) to lose weight collectively or to undertake some fitness challenge.
  3. Get sponsorship as individuals to lose weight or undertake some fitness challenge.

Any weight lost by BBC Hereford & Worcester staff will be the result of a healthier regime, not crash dieting, and you are encouraged to do the same - e.g walking to work, rather than drive or eating fruit & veg rather than crisps & sweets.
