Tree felling for flood defences

Have Your Say

Are you sad to see the trees go along Hylton Road, or is it worth it to stop the floods?

Max Sinclair
No, all trees and obstructions should be removed from the flood plain as they hold back the water and increase the flood levels. If a tree falls it tears a large hole in the bank and runs the real risk of blocking the City Bridge. In the days when we had a responsible, knowledgable River Severn Commissioners they kept the banks clear as my 1860's painting of the Ketch Inn shows.
