Battle of Worcester

Powick Bridge was the scene of the first and last battles on the English Civil War. In a skirmish on 23 September 1642 Royalist cavalry, under Prince Rupert, defeated Parliamentary forces. In 1652 King Charles II knew he had to hold the bridge.
