Alexandra Pereira

BBC Blast Music Reporter

BBC Blast is a nationwide scheme to scout and aid new art, music, sport and fashion talent.

ALEXANDRA PEREIRA, aged 21

Music & Blast

I have long looked to and admired the BBC as a source for my musical research.

I love BBC 6 Music particularly Steve Lamacq, Cerys Matthews and George Lamb's shows, and think BBC Introducing and BBC Blast are magnificent platforms for all that aspire to work in music, whether its creating it or, like me, listening to and documenting it.

My History

I am from Worcester but study Drama in Manchester.

I am a music editor of my Manchester-based student paper and have over the past year interviewed artists and bands including Black Lips, The Maccabees and Patrick Wolf.

On average I guess I go to three shows a week, it’s what I love to do the most.

I like to review to inform and propose my opinion on stuff, particularly seeking out new bands with my friends and watching them grow bigger within the industry.

I've written for a couple of my favourite online webzines but this year’s pinnacle was co-hosting my first student radio show with a friend, New Slang with Lex & Fras on 106.6 Fuse FM.

BBC Blast

I am back here working for BBC Hereford & Worcester this summer.

BBC Blast has given me the inestimable opportunity to work on behalf of BBC H&W as a music reporter, mixing with the professional radio team, my mentors, and learning from the best.

Sourcing, writing about, and interviewing new and local artists and festival organisers in and about the two counties is really exciting; the tasks will be challenging but strengthening to my skills in journalism.

Additionally, the links Blast has with 6 Music and BBC Introducing is super. I feel lucky to be a part of the nationwide placement this summer.

More About Me

• I love Prince to death. In fact my music tastes span everything from elaborate eighties funk-pop to dark and creepy shoe gaze to old school hip-hop. My first live show was the Spice Girls when I was 9.

• I would eventually like to work in music production for TV and film, and travel journalism. I'd also like to try A & R.

• I want to move to New York after I graduate.
