BlastYou are in: Hereford and Worcester > Blast > Sarah Waldron ![]() Sarah WaldronHello, I'm 21 and I am BBC Hereford & Worcester's Blast Sports reporter for 2009... A little bit about meI've just graduated from Birmingham University, and I aspire to fulfil my dream of becoming a broadcast journalist. I applied to the BBC blast scheme because it seemed the perfect opportunity to kick start my journey into the profession, and gain vital 'hands on' experience. I've already met some great people at the BBC and I'm really excited about the next eight weeks. My love of sportSport is very important to me and has always been a huge part of my life. At the age of ten, I discovered (to my Mum and Dad's surprise) a great love of running through muddy fields! Since then I've represented both England and Great Britain for cross country. BBC Hereford & Worcester regularly interview me as a 2012 Olympic hopeful; but whilst I wish to become a professional runner, I've also made it clear to Trevor Owens (the BBC H&W sports Editor) that he better watch out, because I want to take over his job one day! ![]() Helen Murray My BBC journeyThe week I received the call from my mentor, Helen Murray, to say that I'd been successful, was perhaps the best week of my life. Helped along by receiving my University results and being told I had won £500 from Mars refuel drink for my achievements in sport, I knew the blast placement was a once in a life opportunity - for eight weeks I could experience my dream job. The BBC asked me to attend two training days in Bristol, where I made lots of friends from other Sport Blast placements across the country. It was a bit surreal to introduce myself as 'Sarah from BBC Hereford & Worcester', but every time it happened I got an excited feeling inside. Today (Thursday 16 July 2009) is just my first day at BBC Hereford & Worcester, but over the coming weeks I'll be keeping you updated with the exciting sport related stories. I feel I have a lot to live up to working for the BBC, and of course I have a lot to learn. I'm a very determined person and I'm sure I have a lot to look forward to this summer. last updated: 17/07/2009 at 15:57 SEE ALSOYou are in: Hereford and Worcester > Blast > Sarah Waldron |
