Funk / rock / soul band Edgeway from Kidderminster

Edgeway

Edgeway's Big Break

Kidderminster funk/soul band Edgeway were chosen to support Robert Plant at Warwick University in front of twelve hundred people on 2nd April: this is what they thought about their rock-and-roll experience.

Edgeway are Jared Bryant (keys/programming), Lucy Gill (vocals), Danny Gauden (guitar) and Dave Manser bass), with the outfit being completed by drummer Steve White.

Dave Manser writes:

We arrived in Warwick at about 2.15pm, and our first task was to find the venue on the university’s labyrinth-like campus!

As we walked into the venue we first noticed the amount of equipment which had taken up the best part of the hall, making our two amps, drum kit, keys and guitars look rather pathetic.

We were shown to our dressing room where we chilled for most of the afternoon, until our soundcheck which took place at -6ish.

As soon as the soundcheck was over, the mood changed in the band.

It turned to anticipation and excitement (with a few nerves of course) as we waited for doors to open and the hall to fill…

And fill it did!!

By 7.45 the room was rammed, with the balcony upstairs full as well.

We had our 15 minute call from a member of Robert’s management team, and we made the walk down backstage.

Its was very surreal; security guys asking people to move out of our way, doors being held open and, the best part of all, the cheer which greeted us as we walked out on stage.

This immediately settled some of the adrenaline which was franticly pumping through our veins.

The rest of what happened on stage is a bit of a blur, but the crowd really did take to us well, flashes going off, phones being held up and general applause which we really did not expect.

It was all over in a flash, and back we went up to the dressing room where we were met by Robert who came in to pass on his congratulations.

We then watched Robert and the Strange Sensation perform a storming set, and generally soaked up what was our best musical achievement to date.

We’d like to thank everyone who looked after us that day - Robert and his management team firstly, for giving us the opportunity and to everyone in the crowd who gave us such a good buzz.

Edgeway will have a new website up-and-running shortly, but for now please find the time to visit www.7vs.co.uk.
