Nature FeaturesYou are in: Gloucestershire > Nature > Nature Features > Big cat in the Stroud area? ![]() Paw print with razor-like claws Big cat in the Stroud area?Conclusive proof has been found of a big predatory cat living in the Stroud area of Gloucestershire - that's the belief of leading cat expert, Frank Tunbridge, who writes the following... The images below are of two deer kills, both discovered in the Stroud area in January 2008.The top three photos are of a Roe Deer and the bottom two of a Muntjac Deer found just less than three weeks later. You may find the images distressing. Please press 'Back' on your internet browser if you do not wish to see them. Photo One (Roe deer): According to Frank Tunbridge, skin and fur were peeled back in a clinical way as is often the case in big cat kills. Photo Two (Roe deer): Most of the ribs are bitten off close to the spine (giving easier access to internal organs etc). The carcass also has a badly twisted broken neck and strips of skin torn from nose area (sustained in initial attack). Photo Three (Roe deer): There are marks to show the carcass has been dragged 10 feet into some cover (dense brambles) to be consumed at leisure out of sight, which is typical big cat behaviour. Since these photos were taken, the latest reports are that the carcass has been dragged a further 8 feet away and is now completely devoid of any flesh and skin. ![]() Photo Four (Muntjac deer): This kill was reported to Frank on Thursday 31 January 2008 in the Nymsfield area of Stroud. The deer has been partly consumed from the rear which is typical of some large cat behaviour, with skin neatly turned back around the area. ![]() Photo Five (Muntjac deer):Although not definitely a big cat kill, initial attack to neck area could be attributed to a dog as some savaging is apparent, big cats have been known to shake smaller prey. ![]() Anyone who has any information/sightings concerning the subject of big cats in Gloucestershire can get in touch with Frank Tunbridge, either by calling 07711 476715, or email: gloucestershire@bbc.co.uk. last updated: 14/12/2009 at 08:06 Have Your SayWhat do you make of the latest evidence? Do you think there are big predatory cats living wild in Gloucestershire?
