About This Event
Jazz sensation and entertainer extraordinaire, Joe Stilgoe joins Fiona Monbet and the BBC Concert Orchestra at Alexandra Palace Theatre for an all-swinging, all-singing edition of Friday Night is Music Night.
Singer, pianist, bandleader, Joe Stilgoe is a jazz musician with a magic touch, equally happy when topping the jazz charts or holding audiences spellbound with his very personal take on the Broadway classics. The Times raved over his ‘dazzling digits; but the man himself is disarmingly modest – “I suppose I’m only doing what my heroes did, like Cole Porter, Irving Berling and Frank Loesser”, he says. Expect an evening of just that, with his new all star trio, violinist/conductor Fiona Monbet and the BBC Concert Orchestra.
The BBC Concert Orchestra collaborated on a live show for Joe’s smash 2022 album THEATRE; now, they reunite to play tracks from his latest album Welcome to the Club, including The Man In The Moon, Nobody and Mr Peanuts.
From Joe Stilgoe:
Since creating ‘Welcome To The Club’ with my brilliant collaborator Giacomo Smith, people have commented to us how theatrical the songs are - audiences are the reason we do this, so it sparked a delicious thought - what if we could expand the world into the orchestra and create a jazz club symphony? All the theatrics and virtuoso playing of these brilliant musicians, and then you add the jazz trio, and then you add Giacomo Smith, and then you add the brilliant Fiona Monbet. We are taking you inside the greatest jazz club you've never been to, but with the orchestra we tell the stories and share the moments in a heightened, theatrical way which I’m extremely excited about!
