Rooted in folk tradition and alive with dance, storytelling and the rhythms of everyday life, this programme crackles with colour and energy. Ligeti transforms Eastern European melodies and spins them into something dazzling and irresistible, while Vaughan Williams draws out an English folk tune with tenderness and quiet beauty. BBC SSO Section Principal Horn Chris Gough is the soloist in Mozart's sparkling concerto, and Beethoven's Fourth Symphony brings elegance, wit and unstoppable momentum.
