I have just heard the news and I am very sad, for his family and for the football community. This was a great man both as a player and as a manager. As most people remember him for his no nonsense way with the truth, they forget he also had a very keen sense of humour. I for one have missed him over the latter years having moved to the USA some time ago. When asked by Americans who are interested in football, who i thought was the biggest influence in English football, the first name is and will always be Brian Clough. My deepest sympathies to his wife and family.

Football has lost one true legend... A few months ago my brother, a devoted Clougie fan, Set out to get Brian Clough a Knighthood and was planning to put forward this idea to Mr Blair, I just feel it's such a shame it didn't happen. But I am positive knighthood or nor Brian Clough will always be remembered as true football legend. Much love to his family, Holly Shukla (a proud derby girl)

A very moving evening despite the weather, Martin O'neil spoke warmly about a very special person. I was very fortunate to witness the time Cloughie came to Derby and all the achievements that came his way, there will never be another man like him, he will not only be missed by his family and my thoughts are with them at this very sad time but a loss to football. I was also fortunate to meet him when he had just returned from a football function at Villa Park and he told a group of us he could have become a national hero tonight if he had a bomb because he could have got rid of quite a few football chairmen. A real character who helped so many people. God bless you Brian.

I was so glad and honoured to have the privelage to attened. It was a sad occasion but also a happy one. At the end of the day 11,000+ people came to pay their respects and that just say's it all. The kind and loving words Nigel Clough spoke of his father were quite emotional. I'm sure evrybody in the stadium felt the same when he said that Brian to his children was 'Our Dad'. Thank you Derby City Cathedral/Derby County for allowing this occasion to be held at Pride Park and for allowing thousands more to say goodbye to our legend. Today and everyday as long as i live, i can say that i am proud to be born and bred in Derby and glad that Brian Clough enabled me to have such a feeling. Kal. 24.
