The 100,000 square-foot development is being proposed for derelict land between Friar Gate and Agard Street and the offices could eventually provide jobs for 700 people. Developers at Lowbridge (Derby) are hoping to win approval for the new buildings which have been designed by architects Panter Hudspith. As well as bringing new companies to the city centre, developers hope to tempt Derby City Council to the building as the organisation continues its search for a new office space in the city. The plans also include a pedestrian link to the historic listed Friar Gate railway bridge which has been derelict for several decades but could be restored as a public space. Nick Hosking, a director of Derby agents Innes England said: "We are very excited about this innovative development and the benefits it could bring to the Friar Gate area, including up to 700 jobs. "Unfortunately the area hasn't seen any new office development for many years and the provision of a new Grade A office scheme would certainly fill a real gap in the market." The plans have been publicly exhibited on Friar Gate and the developers are expected to submit a planning application in due course. If given the go-ahead, work on the office blocks will start in 2010 and should be completed by early 2012. I used to play on the site when I was growing up during the 70s and it would be great to see it in use again especially the old warehouse but I thought that the Friar Gate Station Site was a nature reserve that housed some rare butterflys? Has anybody got any further information on this. You are in: Derby > Places > Changing Derbyshire > New buildings for Friar Gate |
