Complaint

A listener complained about two interviews conducted by Mishal Husain, one with the Defence Secretary and the other with Lord Darroch, on the basis that Ms Husain’s line of questioning reflected bias against the Israeli position in the current conflict.  The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the BBC’s editorial standards of impartiality.

Outcome

In the ECU’s judgement, Ms Husain’s questioning in both cases reflected only the responsibility of BBC interviewers to subject the views and arguments put forward by interviewees to appropriate challenge, and provided no grounds for imputing bias to her.
